Health and Safety Management
It has been our only and most important goal to provide a safe work environment for employees, contractors and factory employees with “zero pollution and zero occupational injuries.”
We have formulated an "Environment Health and Safety Declaration" and an "Environment Health and Safety Policy." The top managers of each plant regularly hold a "Labor Safety and Health Conference" and implement various projects using the PDCA model to ensure the continuous improvement and achievement of our occupational health and safety goals. AcBel has implemented OHSAS 18001 with 100% coverage to our contractors and all AcBel employees.
To achieve our Occupational Health and Safety goals, we obtained international standard certifications, such as ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, and SA8000 Social Responsibility Management System. We have also reached the requirements of the RBA as well as the BSCI to demonstrate to all stakeholders the company’s determination to value environmental sustainability and occupational health and safety.
Environmental Training Promotion and Safety Awareness
When employees enter the company, the safety and health education and training courses are listed as compulsory courses. Course contents include identification of hazardous substances, emergency escape drills, personal protective equipment, fire drill operations, AED training, etc. The goal is to reduce or eliminate the probability of risk occurrence within the workplace with awareness of ethical safety. Workers conducting special operation are required to obtain professional training certification and to wear personal protective equipment at work, with the same requirement applied to the contractors and on-site employees. In 2019, two all-round fire drills and one-time emergency personnel training as well as multiple occupational safety, health education, and training sessions were conducted at each plant. A total of 59,118 people joined the training, achieving a total of 49,858.3 hours of training.
Active Prevention of Occupational Hazards
For employees working in a special or high-risk position, the company provides them with a full set of safety protection equipment and requires employees to use them. They are also given training and implementation of pre-employment medical examinations, on-the-job annual physical examinations, and leave medical examinations to protect the safety and health of employees are also provided. So far there has been no record of occupational diseases contracted by employees working in special or high-risk positions.
In 2019, there were no serious or fatal industrial accidents in any of the plants. Only minor injuries due to operational errors and accidents occurred during commuting time. The injury rate (IR) also decreased compared with the previous year. All cases of work-related injuries were reported through the official channel. The competent authority handled and investigated the post-disaster cases and improved operations to prevent such accidents from recurring. In 2020, evaluations and emphasized management for heat-resistant electrical wiring material and air duct for VOCs are to be conducted in newly built Tamsui Plant Area.
Employee Health Promotion
AcBel offers annual free health check for employees indiscriminately and also encourages contractors and onsite employees in each plant to join. The participation rate of Tamsui plant even reached above 90%. In addition, the Occupational Safety Office has built a health and safety inspection database to track employees’ health status, to match individuals who work overtime, to perform overall health assessments, and to provide health advice and support through professional doctors' on-site consultations, explanation for physical examination and health talks. In combination with external medical resources, Tamsui plant also provides anti-cancer screening services such as oral cancer, colon cancer, and cervical cancer so that employees can prevent the occurrence of diseases earlier.
